You may have come across movie scenes where a car with faulty brakes evades city traffic at high speeds or perhaps maneuvers in narrow bends on a hillside with a squeal of tires. These scenes are dramatic portrayals of what is happening in real life, and certainly very dangerous, but definitely not so often. Facts and figures indicate that of all road traffic accidents in the United States, only 3% are related to brake failures. This should give you an idea that braking failure is not a common occurrence and does not always lead to tragedies. Again, it is not necessary that your vehicle pick up extremely high speed after brake failure, but such a vehicle can certainly leave death and destruction in its path if the driver does not know how to deal with the situation. Failures of the brakes can usually be attributed to worn brake parts, lack of maintenance, damage to the braking system, or possibly even manufacturing defects. Previously, there may have been a case when jammed brakes appeared on old cars due to various reasons, such as cold, dirt, or other factors, but with the latest advances in automotive technology even these conditions were thrown out of sight. In order to avoid problems with the vehicle, in the first place, you can avoid desperate situations, such as brake failure. If you are still in this situation, there is no need to panic, as this can make the situation worse. Although this is a life-threatening situation, you can successfully deal with it by following some basic rules mentioned below. So what can you do if the brakes in your car do not respond? First things first, do not panic. Such a situation can be confusing, but if you stay calm, you will undoubtedly deal with this without causing any harm to yourself or to others. If you notice a brake failure, do a quick check of the movement around you, select the route with the least number of nearest obstacles and turn to it. Try to walk in a straight line and avoid turns. Shift the car to a lower gear and pump the brakes several times. Use hand or parking brakes. This may cause the vehicle to turn around, but you must drive the vehicle to avoid this. The last option is to apply reverse gear. This should drastically reduce speed, even if it could damage the transmission of your car. I hope that you will never find yourself in a situation where you need to apply such measures, but if you, unfortunately, are doing this, I am sure that now you can successfully deal with it.
